McClure Federal Courthouse Security Upgrades

Project Type Design-Assist/Install security upgrade project.
Project Description Sloan Security Group provided design-assist services to client architects on crash-engineered bollards, wall and cable barrier. After design completion, Sloan personnel provided and installed multiple perimeter security solutions to secure and control the entire perimeter of this facility.
Project Challenges
  • Specialized excavation practices were required due to buried utility lines and historical artifacts.
  • The project required rebuilding the entire front entrance for both vehicles and pedestrians access and required restrictive scheduling during the project.
  • Major terrorism court cases were a factor in scheduling as well.

Project Title and Location FBI Boston Field Office in Chelsea, MA
Project Type Automated Security Barriers and Gates Provision and Installation.
Project Description Sloan provided and installed of FE/BR Guard Facilities, Crash-Rated Wedge Barriers, and Gates.
Project Challenges Located in an urban location, the project had  no parking or storage available on site which required all materials be stored off-site and delivered only when required. Barrier installation was completed in several mobilizations due to project phasing.

Barriers and Gates.
Project Description Sloan Security Group provided design-assist services to the Walsh
Group architects highlighting problems with the design. After
design completion, Sloan personnel provided and installed
multiple perimeter security solutions to secure and control the
entire perimeter and multiple access control points at this facility.
Project Challenges Specialized excavation practices were required due to agacency
to utility lines. The adjacent roadways created challenges relating
to design modifications relating to stand-off distances for VBIEDs.

Kerr Federal Courthouse Expansion and Security Alteration

Project Type  Perimeter security fence with Crash-resistant access and sandstone columns
Project Description  SSG installed custom sandstone columns to match the historic courthouse, Ameristar 8′ high security fencing and custom designed crash-resistant gates to upgrade security at the Casper, Wyoming Federal Courthouse.
Project Challenges
  • Manufacturing, installing, and operating two gates that weighed over 4,000 lbs.
  • High security requirements for onsite personnel.
  • Matching the new sandstone columns to the existing historic building.
  • Installation of sandstone pilasters in the unpredictable winter weather.

United States Federal Courthouse San Diego

 

Project Title and Location San Diego Federal Courthouse Crash Barriers and Access Control
Project Type Crash Rated Wedge Barrier with Bollards and Access Control
Project Description Sloan Security Group provided specialized security equipment installation for Delta Scientific crash-rated bollards and RSSI barrier, as well as the controls.

This Gold LEED project received the 2013 Excellence in Partnering Award from the California AGC as the first Federal Courthouse built on time and under budget during since at least 1990.

Project Challenges Project was a 17 floor high-rise courthouse in a very urban environment with very small footprint for site work. Sequence of operations for the automated barrier systems was complex with multiple operational modes. Shallow mounted equipment was required to avoid utilities in some locations. Sloan contributed design assistance for scope of work.
